Sleep Disorders and Research Center

The ECU Sleep Disorders and Research Center is a state-of-the-art sleep center providing comprehensive care in all aspects of sleep medicine to the East Carolina community and beyond.

The ECU Sleep Disorders Center opened its door in December of 2008. The Center is a eight bed full service unit located on the first floor of the new ECU Moye Building. The Center is also equipped for home or in hospital monitoring for screening and follow up purposes. We provide diagnosis and treatment of the more than 80 different types of sleep disorders by a multidisciplinary team of specialists experienced in the treatment of various sleep disorders.

As part of the Brody School of Medicine, our center serves as the training site for medical staff interested in sleep disorders. In addition to the clinical services we have an active academic and research program aimed at exploring and advancing the science of sleep under the guidance of Dr. Zia Rehman.

The Sleep Disorders and Research Center of recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
