Curriculum
During the PGY-1 year, neurology residents will complete up to 4 blocks of neurology. In accordance with American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology requirements, the remainder of the intern year consists of internal medicine rotations.
The PGY-2 year consists of 4 blocks of inpatient stroke, 4 blocks of ambulatory neurology, 2 blocks of electroencephalography/epilepsy, 1 block of neuroradiology and 2 blocks of elective.
The PGY-3 year consists of 4 blocks of Neurocritical care, 4 blocks of ambulatory neurology, 2 blocks of electromyography/neuromuscular, and 3 blocks of elective.
The PGY-4 year consists of 3 blocks of inpatient chief, 3 blocks of child neurology, 3 blocks of ambulatory neurology, 1 block of psychiatry and 3 blocks of elective.
Continuity Clinic: concurrent with other rotations, throughout the duration of the program, residents attend a weekly half-day general neurology clinic. This allows residents to reevaluate patients who they encounter on inpatient rotations and to provide longitudinal care for patients with chronic neurological disease.
Educational Conferences:
We offer a comprehensive schedule of conferences tailored to the educational needs of residents. These include grand rounds, journal club, case conference, and subspecialty seminars in epilepsy/EEG, neuromuscular/EMG, sleep, stroke, movement disorders, cognitive-behavioral neurology/psychiatry, neuro-ophthalmology, neurocritical care, neuro-oncology, neuropathology, neuroradiology, child neurology, neuroimmunology and headache medicine. Residents also attend small group sessions on wellness, career planning, business of medicine, teaching, and research/quality improvement methods. Most resident conferences are held between noon and 1 PM.
Besides these resident-focused conferences, residents are invited to a variety of neuroscience seminars held at Brody School of Medicine.
